About Us

Welcome from Siog

Dear Parents,

I am delighted to welcome you to Little Land which I founded in 1994 inspired by my maternal passion to provide the absolute best environment to start off my own children’s education.

I am Siog Moore. I qualified as a nurse in Ireland and came to Dubai 28 years ago to work as a specialist in Neo-Natal Intensive Care before starting my own family.

When my eldest two children were ready to start nursery, I opened Little Land Nursery and Montessori Centre with a pledge to always have Early Years qualified teachers, educated assistants and not to do school trips.

Over the years I am proud to have developed a great team of inspired and passionate teachers. I am even more excited to go to work today than I was then. And indeed a couple of my teachers from then are still with me.

I truly value the family feel in the nursery and strive to get to know and support all the children and their families. I work with parent educators, counsellors, speech and occupational therapists to provide an holistic network of expertise for the children.

I believe that if your child’s self-esteem is strong and they have a true sense of belonging then they have the ability to take life on with courage and creativity and to be the best they can be. Connection with compassion is the basis of every interaction with all of the children at Little Land.

About Little Land

The decision where to start your child’s education is one of the most significant ones that you will take in the first few years of your child’s life.

When it came to sending my children to nursery school for me it was important. It then set the wheels in motion for me establish my own nursery with excellent qualified teachers and assistants, I have always led by example and have studied continuously over the years. I recently completed a degree in Early Years Practice from University of Suffolk. I am very proud to have grown a business and a community of like-minded parents and teachers pre-dominantly through word of mouth.

In 1994 the doors of Little Land opened with just 8 children, we have grown from strength to strength because we are tried, tested and trusted by parents. Today we have 6 classrooms, with children from 56 different nationalities.

I am in the Nursery every day, a hands-on owner-manager, doing the work I love. My day to day role at Little Land Nursery is to lead and work closely with an amazing group of passionate and inspired staff.

Maintaining a safe environment and ensuring that we maximise your child’s potential with positive psychology is central to our thinking. We do this by helping the children to develop strong self-esteem, a sense of belonging and encouraging them to make good choices. Instilling values like respect for others and a love of learning will stand them in good stead for the rest of their lives.

All of our teachers have pre-school teaching qualifications either the Montessori International Diploma or the Cache Level 3 EYFS, we also encourage all of our classroom assistants to gain formal nursery teaching credentials. Our nursery section is for children from 14 months old (and walking) and our Montessori section is for children from 2 ½ to 4 years old.

As well as six classrooms, Little Land has a spacious playground divided into five large shaded areas, a further grass area, water play and indoor soft play. We aim to provide your child with the best facilities to develop his/her self-confidence and independence.

We have an open door policy and we welcome anyone to come and meet with us to find out more about Little Land Nursery and Montessori Centre.

Our team

At Little Land we pride ourselves on our team. It is their passion and enthusiasm that has been a huge part of our success over the years. They are a highly educated group of ladies from all over the world with either Early Years Cache Level 3 (A UK examination board qualification) or Montessori teaching qualifications as a minimum.

We also encourage our assistant teachers to study. We are pro-active in providing continuing education for all our staff, either by hosting courses at the nursery or by facilitating staff to attend recognised study days.

What is best for the child is at the centre of everything we do and with such a talented team of teachers we are able to provide an environment that fosters a child’s self confidence, independence and full potential; creating and developing the leaders of tomorrow.

You can read more about our teachers and why they choose to work at Little Land when you look at each class.

Life at Little Land would grind to a slow halt without all our support staff led by the wonderful Erika Smedley who welcomes you in the office every day.

Our Facilities

We relocated in 2016 but the famous Red Door from our first site is still there leading to our friendly, loving, secure and child-centered nursery.

Inside the completely refurbished building we have a lot more space giving us bigger classrooms, a large indoor play area, a soft play room, our own Nurse’s room (we have two qualified nurses on site) and a spacious kitchen.

As a Montessori and EYFS nursery, the children have continuous provision in their classroom, which is divided into 6 areas. The six main areas are: Art, Practical Life, Sensorial, Language, Mathematics and Culture (which includes geography, nature and science).

The children have free flow from classrooms to our shaded outdoor areas which have a garden with vegetables growing and a new Teletubby garden with hills and tunnels and a special water-play area.

We are also proud to welcome our parents and friends of Little Land to our Parent Community Centre designed to support parents raising children by providing courses led by qualified facilitators or teachers in parenting, fitness and wellbeing. It allows parents the chance to make new friendships and share what they have to offer with fellow course participants.

Your Child’s Next School

We want to make sure that your child is ready for his or her next school. Little Land is completely independent and is proud to work with most of the best primary schools in Dubai who know that all children from Little Land Nursery have the skills they need to make the most of the next stage in their education.

Four schools visit us regularly to meet the children (DESS, JESS, JAPS, Kings). Children from Little Land Nursery also regularly join DAA, DIA, Dubai British School, Wellington and JPS.

The Curriculum

Little Land is a Nursery and Montessori Centre. We have a total of six classrooms, with three traditional nursery classes following the EYFS curriculum for children from 14 months old (and walking), and three Montessori classrooms for children from 2 ½ years old.

The three traditional nursery classes for children from 14 months old (and walking) up until 2 ½ years follow the EYFS curriculum. The children are taught in a traditional nursery environment with a schedule that includes play with traditional toys as well as introducing crafts such as play dough, painting and colouring. More physical activities include sand and water play, music and movement, brain gym and exploration of the environment.

EYFS UK based curriculum is broken down into 7 areas of learning:

1. Personal, Social and Emotional Development (PSED)
2. Physical Development
3. Communication and Language
4. Expressive Art & Design
5. Maths
6. Literacy
7. Knowledge and Understanding of the World (KUW)

Little Land is the most established Montessori centre in Dubai, it is for children who are over 2 ½ years old in September of the academic year. At Little Land there are three Montessori classrooms. Montessori is a system of Nursery, Primary and Secondary education devised by Dr Maria Montessori in the 1900’s. She developed a series of equipment and a method of teaching to maximise each child’s physical and psychological potential at any stage of their development. In the class the children are encouraged to complete activities once started and to take responsibility for their classroom. This is done in a child-friendly way. The Montessori classroom is divided into six areas: art, practical life, sensorial, language, mathematics and culture, which includes geography, nature and science.
