Being a Montessori teacher, I believe that learning should be joyful, hands-on, and just the right amount of messy. Hearing the words “I don’t need help, I’m big now” from a three-year-old child who had just zipped up their own jacket really sums up what the philosophy is all about for me. I love watching children take pride in doing things for themselves (even if it takes ten minutes to put on one shoe). As Maria Montessori said, “The greatest gifts we can give our children are the roots of responsibility and the wings of independence”, and maybe a little extra time at the coat rack 😊
